Vintage Conditions

Winter was colder than usual, with heavy rains, which helped to restore some of the drought-damaged water tables. A later and cooler season resulted in slow, but even ripening of a somewhat larger and outstanding quality wine grape crop.

Vinification Process

Only the healthiest berries from hand-harvested grapes made it into the small, open-top fermenters where they were fermented on the skins. During fermentation, pump-overs were performed twice a day to extract the ripe, round tannins and the maximum amount of colour pigment. To ensure that the fruit is the main attraction, the wine was aged in 3rd and 4th fill French oak barrels in order to limit the influence of oak-derived characters.
